So the wizard prefers to live a bit away from the superstitious townsfolk with pitchforks and torches. They practice their magic with care, get sturdy walls built, and construct contingencies just in case something went wrong and they did have to fight something within the place. They make their home sturdy, and tall so they can observe the stars as well, watch when the alignment is right for the rituals that require perfect timing.
The knight approaching the place means trouble, in my view.
Nonetheless, love the bit of art here, its a very impressive piece of work and inspiring, I would love to use it in one of the roleplaying games I try and run to a few people now and then. Its definitely got that something that makes imagination spring forth.
